The Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations returns to Manchester on Saturday May 11, 2019 after event organisers BSI Speedway gave the nod to the National Speedway Stadium to host Race Off 2.
The inaugural staging of the prestigious tournament saw Great Britain, with current world champion Tai Woffinden at the helm, charge into last year’s finals where they claimed a silver medal overall.
Seven nations will again go into battle at the spiritual home of British Speedway next summer, bringing together a cast of international superstars all with their sights set on world domination.
CEO of Belle Vue Speedway, Adrian Smith, said: “As a club, we’re delighted to welcome back such a distinguished event as the Speedway of Nations to Manchester for a second consecutive year.
“We have commented many times in the past on the world-class potential of the National Speedway Stadium, and it made clear its appeal to the organisers and the riders during last year’s competition.
“I am confident that the level of racing and the intensity of the competition will produce for us another truly exciting night of racing not just for supporters of Belle Vue, but for fans nationwide.
“We’d like to extend our thanks to Manchester City Council for their continuing support of Belle Vue Speedway and their backing throughout our discussions with BSI Speedway to bring this event to the city.”
BSI Speedway managing director Torben Olsen said: “It’s fantastic to be bringing this event back to one of the world’s finest race tracks.
“The National Speedway Stadium has rapidly established a reputation for great racing since it opened in 2016, and this is one fans from all over the UK and beyond will not want to miss.
“Great Britain proved they are real contenders for the world title in last year’s Monster Energy SON. But with six other countries battling for qualification in Manchester, it’s going to be an exciting night.”
Cllr Luthfur Rahman, Manchester City Council’s executive member for culture, leisure and schools, said: “The National Speedway Stadium at Belle Vue is renowned for being one of the best tracks in the world and it’s fitting then that Manchester is hosting some of the best riders in the world.
“We expect some incredible races as we welcome the Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations event in May next year.”
The full line-up of nations for Race Off 2 will be announced in due course, along with the venue and teams for Race Off 1 on May 4.
