Belle Vue’s own Steve Worrall and Rohan Tungate are the next to be confirmed in the line-up for the club’s 90th Anniversary Celebration featured event, the Peter Craven Memorial, on Saturday, March 24.
And alongside them, great Danish prospect Frederik Jakobsen has also accepted the call to compete and is relishing the opportunity to put himself in the British Speedway shop window.
He narrowly missed out on a medal in last year’s individual European Under-21 Championship final at Latvian track Daugavpils, where Great British rider Robert Lambert ultimately triumphed.
2018 Australian Champion, Rohan Tungate, likewise opened the eyes of the world to his international potential with a flawless display in last year’s Grand Prix series finale in Melbourne and going on to be crowned Australian Champion over the Winter months.
Mancunian favourite, Worrall, is riding high off the back of a highly successful 2017 campaign in which he announced himself on the world stage with an astounding appearance for Team GB.
Both return to Belle Vue’s Premiership side for the new season alongside fellow competitors Craig Cook and Dan Bewley, with the whole team first in action on Monday, March 19 against the Swindon Robins.
Worrall said: “I’m delighted to be able to take part in Belle Vue’s 90th Celebration meeting. I missed out last year as I was riding for Newcastle so I’ve got a bit of ground to make up this time around.
“The only other occasions that riders of this calibre come together in the same line-up is if it’s a World Cup or a Grand Prix, and I can’t wait to get in amongst them and cause a few upsets!
It’s the perfect way for the club to break the ice on what we aim to make a productive season at Belle Vue. We’ve made great progress over the last three years but we want to step up our game.”
Tickets for the 90th Anniversary Celebration are now on-sale via the club’s website. The evening, which will feature many other motorcycling disciplines, gets underway at the earlier time of 6pm.
The Belle Vue Aces meanwhile are making preparations for their first meeting of the season against reigning champions Swindon on Monday March 19.
