Eagles Fly To Victory

A tough night at the office saw the Belle Vue Colts leave Eastbourne’s Arlington Stadium empty handed after a dominant 61-29 display by the Forman IT Eagles, who took all three league points.

The Cool Running Colts were more than prepared for the challenge ahead of their journey south, but ran into difficulties that took an unforeseen toll on their efforts to make a significant impact.

They were reduced to six men after Ben Woodhull flipped his motorcycle in spectacular fashion at the tapes for Heat 2, landing hard and ultimately withdrew from the meeting on medical advice.

The skipper, Jack Smith, was leading comfortably in Heat 9 before falling by himself, resulting in an exclusion, while Kyle Bickley suffered engine problems that left him having to borrow bikes.

No.1 Tom Perry starred for the visitors with a stellar 10 points from his five appearances, with the in-form local lad Joe Lawlor adding an impressive 7 to their tally while Smith followed up with 5.

Club boss Graham Goodwin said: “It was always going to be a tough night and unfortunately for us it was one where everything went wrong, but not once did the boys let their heads drop.

“Kyle had engine problems before he even turned a wheel and Jack Smith ran into bad luck when he came down, but everyone rallied to try and make a come back. Sadly, it wasn’t meant to be.

“There’s a bit of concern with Ben Woodhull after he flipped his bike. The track was quite soft underneath and the bike landed on his foot. At this stage we don’t believe anything’s broken.

“Overall, not our best night but it wasn’t through lack of trying. We’ve just got to put this one to bed now and consolidate our performance so that we can bounce back at home on Wednesday.”

Current speedway world champion, Jason Doyle, is in town on Monday April 30 when the Rentruck Aces tackle Somerset while the Cool Running Colts face Plymouth at home on May 2.

Tickets for next week’s Premiership and National League home fixtures are now available at www.bellevueaces.co and at  the stadium box office on race night.
