Somer-Setting Their Challenge

Somerset are next in line to challenge Belle Vue at the National Speedway Stadium on Monday, April 30, and they’re packing some awesome firepower in the form of 2017 world champion Jason Doyle.

The Rentruck Aces are riding high after last week’s demolition of Rye House, and are one step closer to being back to full strength following confirmation that Damian Drozdz will be re-joining the side.

Lasse Bjerre will take the place of injured captain Steve Worrall, who is nearly three weeks into treatment for the broken leg which he suffered in Scunthorpe’s season opener against Redcar.

The Rebels meanwhile have the benefit of Charles Wright’s recent exploits as Belle Vue guest to draw on as they target their first away win of the campaign.

Club No.6 Jye Etheridge, who bagged his first Premiership heat win last Monday, said: “Somerset have a strong team, especially with the likes of Doyley and Jack Holder in there so it’ll be tough.

“It’s great to have Damian back. He’s had some good laps in Poland already so he’ll be back fighting no doubt, and Lasse Bjerre has been a great guest for us before so on paper we’re quite even.

“We’re a young team but we’ve proved since the beginning of the year that we’ve ample experience between us to pull off some big results, and I’m delighted with how my season is shaping up.

“I was using a new engine last week, just to see how it rode but it worked fantastically well and from there the setups started to come to me. I felt fast and was a huge boost to get that heat win.”

The Cool Running Colts are away at Eastbourne tonight, April 28, before the Rentruck Aces return to the NSS on April 30 to face Somerset, with the Colts in action against Plymouth at the NSS on May 2.

Tickets for next week’s Premiership and National League home fixtures are now available at and at the stadium box office on race night.
