Belle Vue stalwart Dan Bewley’s impeccable form continued in Tuesday night’s British U-21 Final at Berwick, where he just missed out on a podium finish after enjoying a near-flawless meeting.
Defending champion Robert Lambert breezed through the card to retain his title, with Connor Mountain taking second and Nathan Greaves following up with a hard-earned third place.
Dropping his only qualifying point to Lambert in Heat 15, Bewley was tipped amongst the favourites for the gold as he stormed straight into the grand final with 14 points from his five appearances.
But he was unable to get the better of Greaves and was forced to settled for fourth after getting caught in traffic, and despite having ample speed was unable to pass his Wolverhampton equal.
Belle Vue’s three other representatives, Jack Smith, Joe Lawlor and Kyle Bickley, performed admirably in the face of such strong opposition, with Smith only 1 point short of a semi-final spot.
It was a baptism of fire for Lawlor and Bickley, two of the youngest competitors in the field, whose efforts and persistence saw them each finished their night on 3 points and 5 points respectively.
Congratulations to all our finalists on their fantastic performace!
