Masters of the Elements

The Belle Vue ‘Cool Running’ Colts were back to their usual, dominant selves at the National Speedway Stadium, triumphing 61-29 over Stoke after a somewhat soggy start to their evening.

A short, sharp thunderstorm threatened to put the meeting in jeopardy as heavy rain pounded Manchester less than an hour before tapes up, but it was not enough to dampen team spirits.

Riders from both sides of the pits displayed exemplary attitudes towards waiting for the worst of the weather to pass, and were extremely enthusiastic in their approach to getting the racing on.

The track once again proved it was more than capable of handling what the weather had to throw at it, and the meeting got underway without so much as a minute’s delay to the start.

In a quite remarkable achievement, not only did the reigning champions hit the 60-point mark against their neighbours, but they also produced a heat winner in every single race of the night.

Kean Dicken was especially delighted to come away with his first heat win as a Belle Vue Colt, while Tom Perry scored a full 15-point maximum and Kyle Bickley added a 14+1 paid maximum.

Dicken said: “Stoke fancied their chances but we weren’t about to let lightning strike twice. We knew it was critical for us to get the win because things are getting very tight in the table.

“Full credit to them though. They pushed us as hard as they could but we were dialled in right from the word go, even despite heavy rain before the meeting. It made conditions slightly tricky.

“But we were feeling confident that we could do what we had to do. I was really please to finally get a heat win. It’s been a long time coming and I feel much better for having achieved it.

“It was a solid, all-round performance from the team. Both Tom and Kyle got maximums but everybody’s contribution made the difference between such a comprehensive win on the night.”

The Rentruck Aces prepare to welcome Jason Doyle and the current league leaders the Somerset Rebels this Monday, July 16 as Premiership action kicks on at the National Speedway Stadium.

Tickets for this mouthwatering clash are now available online at and at the stadium box office on race night.
