Success at the Summer of Speed

Belle Vue celebrated its 90th birthday in style on Saturday with a celebration of motorcycling disciplines, including the British Youth Championship, in their Summer Speed Saturday.

Featuring four classes, including 125cc, 150cc, 250cc and 500cc, the series staged its fifth round at the National Speedway Stadium and welcomed upwards of 30 young riders through the gates.

And in a first for Belle Vue, fans were treated to demonstration laps from a whole host of Flat Track riders, as well as the familiar roar of the Men in Black vintage display riders.

The British Youth Championship took centre stage in Manchester with Sam McGurk winning the 125cc class, Jack bell winning the 150cc, Nathan Ablitt the 250cc and Jordan Palin the 500cc.

Young Lions boss Neil Vatcher said: “It’s very satisfying to see these young riders making such great progress, riders that have come through from the 125cc class right through to the 500cc.

“We’ve seen some excellent examples of the success of this series, like Leon Flint, Jason Edwards and Kyle Bickley, and what’s even more pleasing is that our pool of riders is increasing.

“With riders like these guys, and the youngsters we’re just starting to see coming through, the future is very bright for British Speedway and I’m delighted for all our winners in Manchester.”

The Belle Vue ‘Cool Running’ Colts take over the National Speedway Stadium this Wednesday, August 1 against Mildenhall while the Rentruck Aces return on August 6 against King’s Lynn.

Tickets for both home fixtures are now available online at and at the stadium box office on race night.
