Top Two Collide

The Belle Vue Colts head into Wednesday’s clash with Mildenhall looking to re-claim their place at the top of the National League table after being shunted off top spot for the first time this year.

And it was none other than the Fen Tigers responsible for the shunting, making this a true top-of-the-table clash in which the best in the league will lock horns at the National Speedway Stadium.

But for one minor hiccup, the Cool Running Colts have remained dominant in Manchester and only recently sent close neighbours Stoke packing after a quite comprehensive 61-29 victory.

The Fen Tigers, though, are not without significant firepower and top man Drew Kemp in particular has made rapid progress, not unlike Belle Vue’s own Dan Bewley, in a very short space of time.

Even with Jack Smith on Premiership duty for Swindon, the Cool Running Colts have bolstered their side with Buxton’s Ben Wilson; a man who starred on the Hitmen’s recent visit to Manchester.

Team boss Steve Williams said: “We can’t be getting complacent, even though we are strong at home, because Mildenhall have a solid team and will be coming off the back of some great results.

“We’ve always said our place at the top was slightly misleading due to the number of meetings we’ve had over everyone else but that’s not to say we won’t be challenging to earn that spot back.

“It’s a shame not to have Jack with us but he’s where he needs to be with Swindon, and Ben Wilson is a rider who has ridden for us before and has done very well so we’re happy to have him.

“We’re looking forward to this meeting. It’ll be a tough evening, but we have confidence in the team to put in a good shift and be on their best game, and hopefully we come out with the win.”

The Cool Running Colts head to Mildenhall on August 4 before the Rentruck Aces welcome British Champion Robert Lambert and the King’s Lynn Stars to Manchester on Monday, August 6.

Tickets for both home fixtures are now available online at and at the stadium box office on race night.
