An 'All-Guns-Blazing' Win

Kyle Bickley stormed the Belle Vue shale to deliver a flawless 15-point maximum from five rides in the Cool Running Colt’s emphatic 57-32 win over Buxton at the National Speedway Stadium.

The Hitmen held the home side to a drawn heat, courtesy of Ben Wilson, to open the meeting but their hosts were quick to respond in Heat 2 with a 5-1 from Paul Bowen and Kean Dicken.

And with a more comprehensive grip on things, the Cool Running Colts continued in a manner so typical of the reigning league champions on home shale to maintain and extend their advantage.

But with plenty of expected rain throughout the day, the track was slightly grippier than usual, with skipper jack Smith coming down in Heat 10 though was thankfully none the worse for wear.

Tom Perry added an impressive 11+2 to Bickley’s 15-point maximum, while reserve duo Bowen and Dicken enjoyed one of their best nights of the year with 7 points and 6+2 points respectively.

Bickley said: “A couple of the lads had a bit of an off night by their standards, but on the whole it was a fantastic result and one that we definitely needed to put three more points on the board.

“All the boys were fired up for this one. The rain had made the track quite grippy, which a lot of us quite liked and it gave us a bit more of an advantage to go out and do what we needed to do.

“I personally can’t complain with tonight. I’ve had an up and down season so this has been a long time coming. To get a maximum feels really good but to get one at the NSS is just brilliant.

“There’s still lots to play for for us in terms of the play offs. We’re not comfortable by any means because so many other clubs have meetings in hand but we’re optimistic we can still make it.”

It’s a big Bank Holiday double-header for the Rentruck Aces against Wolverhampton who they face in Manchester in the morning before heading down to the Black Country the same evening.

Then, the Cool Running Colts are back in action at the National Speedway Stadium on Friday, August 31 for their rearranged clash against Kent which was called off due to weather last week.

Tickets for both home meetings are now available online at and at the stadium box office on race night.
