With the play offs looming large, Belle Vue have signed flying Frenchman Dimitri Bergé to further bolster their side. He makes his Premiership debut for the club on Monday, August 13 at Leicester.
The 22-year old comes in at No.7 in place of Damian Dróżdż who has been struggling for consistency, but who has shown a great deal of potential during his tenure at the National Speedway Stadium.
Director of Speedway Mark Lemon said: “I think Damian has exceeded everyone’s expectations of a young Polish rider coming into the Premiership, so he can be proud of what he’s achieved this year.
“But he seems to have lost his confidence since crashing a couple of weeks ago and that has become more evident in his performances, particularly at King’s Lynn on Wednesday when he failed to score.
“As a club, we pride ourselves on keeping faith in the team we sign at the beginning of each season but at this point, we feel it’s in Damian’s and our best interests for us to make this change.”
Bergé is a man very much in form for Championship club Redcar and made quite an impression on the international stage for Team France in the 2018 Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations.
With a wealth of experience on both the shale and the grass, he is ready to make the jump up to British Speedway’s top tier on a permanent basis after several promising guest appearances.
Lemon added: “Dimitri is an immensely talented rider who has a lot to offer the Premiership and I think he will make a very exciting addition to our team as we continue to push for the play offs.
“We’ve seen what he can do in Manchester and I’m confident he will rise to the challenges we face. He’s got a great attitude and wants to prove he can mix it up with the league’s top riders.”
Belle Vue Speedway would like to thank Damian Dróżdż for all of his contributions to the Aces this season, and we wish him the very best of luck for the remainder of 2018.
