Kent the Final Gambit?

Reigning National League champions Belle Vue round off their league fixtures away from home on Monday, September 10 against the Kent Kings with their play off fate hanging in the balance.

The Cool Running Colts are level with Eastbourne on 30 points after seventeen meeting and the team knows that only a big performance at Sittingbourne can keep their top four chances alive.

But they will have to do it without a clutch of their regular 1-7 owing to fixture clashes and work commitments, with Tom Perry and Joe Lawlor unavailable and Jack Smith riding for Swindon.

They will operate rider replacement for the skipper at No.3 while Buxton’s Tom Woolley and Plymouth’s Henry Atkins step in for the absent Lawlor and Perry at No.4 and No.5 respectively.

It’s not the ideal situation, says reserve Kean Dicken, but the boys know they’ve a job to do, adding: “There’s a lot riding on this meeting for us and so we’re keeping our eye on the prize.

“Obviously it’s a huge blow to have Tom [Perry], Joe and Jack missing because they’re so strong for us but Tom [Woolley] and Henry are capable riders and I’m sure they will do a good job.

“It’s so frustrating not to have complete control over what happens around us in the table but we’re pumped up and determined to everything we can to give ourselves the best chance.

“Nothing is written in stone and things can change quickly, so while there’s time we’ll keep fighting. We want to have the chance of defending our title and that’s what we’re focused on.”

The Rentruck Aces also have a cluster of significant meetings ahead, starting with the defence of their KOC title at Somerset on September 12 ahead of the return leg at home on September 19.

They then commence their play off campaign with a visit from King’s Lynn on September 24 before they head to Norfolk for the second leg at the Adrian Flux Arena on October 1.

The Cool Running Colts are also back at home on September 14 against Mildenhall. Tickets for all home fixtures are available at and at the stadium box office on race night.
