The Belle Vue ‘Cool Running’ Colts want to make Good Friday a great Friday when they make their first competitive appearance in 2019 against close neighbours Stoke for their local derby.
The new-look National League side hand debuts to Jordan Palin and Ben Rathbone, while Belle Vue debutants Danny Phillips and Leon Flint are eager to make their mark on Mancunian soil.
They will be without club No.4 Paul Bowen, who remains side-lined due to an ongoing shoulder injury, but who will be there to support his team mates. The team will operate R/R for Bowen.
The Potters track former Colts rider Tom Perry at No.1 with solid backing throughout their team as to make this quite the dynamic fixture to open their campaign at the National Speedway Stadium.
Team boss Steve Williams is excited to finally be launching their latest league title bid, saying: “It’s our local derby, with Buxton not racing this season, and the lads are really pumped up.
“On paper, Stoke are an excellent side. They’ve got quite a few capable riders who could potentially prove to be spoilers around our track, especially Tom Perry, who rode for us last season.
“But likewise, we’ve got some very solid lads and some very enthusiastic newcomers who, once they’ve settled in and found their rhythm, I think can and will surprise a lot of people.
“There’s no pressure on the boys. We want them to enjoy racing as much as we hope fans will enjoy watching them. It’s a development league and for us it’s all about bringing these youngsters on.
“We’ll be feeling our way into the meeting but we’ve also got the talent and experience to put in a strong performance, and if we can get a few wins along the way then it’s even better.”
The Cool Running Colts face the Stoke Potters in their first league fixture of the season at the earlier time of 1pm at Manchester’s National Speedway Stadium on Good Friday, April 19.
Tickets are now available online at www.bellevue-speedway.com and at the stadium box office on race day.
