A Great Friday!

Belle Vue pulled off a dramatic 63-27 victory against Stoke on Good Friday to kick start their National League campaign in Manchester, where brand-new No.1 Leon Flint starred for the home side.

The bank holiday sun was beating down on the National Speedway Stadium and the action on track was as hot as the weather, and the Cool Running Colts were not as cold as the Potters thought.

Flint opened the afternoon with a comprehensive win in Heat 1 with team partner Ben Woodhull in tow to collect the 5-1 for the home team, and that set into motion their momentum for the day.

There was little the visitors could do to respond as the Cool Running Colts pulled further and further away, relishing conditions despite the uncharacteristic heat, and ultimately didn’t recover.

15-year old Jordan Palin pulled off a jaw-dropping performance in his National League debut, scoring a massive 11+4 from six very strong outings in which he dropped just three points.

He said: “I couldn’t be happier with my performance, and for the team to have done as well as they did, I don’t think we expected to win by so much. I think we expected things to be much closer.

“Stoke have a good team and we knew they going to push us hard, but we made a strong start and were able to build up a sizeable lead, so it helped settle us down and really boosted our spirits.

“The track held up really well even though it was quite warm. We’re relieved to get the first one out of the way. We all got stuck in and helped each other out. We’re looking forward to the next one.”

The bank holiday extravaganza continues in Manchester on Easter Monday when the Rentruck Aces take to the track in the Premiership Supporters’ Cup against the Wolverhampton Wolves.

It’s the hottest motorsport ticket in town and with the action touted to be even better than Good Friday’s National League clash, the club is expecting a bumper crowd to descend on the NSS.

Tapes go up at the earlier time of 12:00pm at the National Speedway Stadium, with tickets available at the stadium on race day or online now at www.bellevue-speedway.com.
