Danny Phillips takes on the temporary captain’s mantle for the Belle Vue Colts’ Saturday night trip to Leicester, where they will take on National League newcomers the Cubs at Beaumont Park.
After tasting success over Easter, the Cool Running Colts are keen to resume their campaign after a lengthy pause in their schedule, but they will have to do it without a handful of their regular riders.
Kyle Bickley and Leon Flint are on duty for their Championship teams while Paul Bowen remains on the injured list. The club has therefore called on Tom Perry, Ben Wilson and Sam Woolley as cover.
The Cubs, meanwhile, are fresh off the back of a 55-34 home win over Mildenhall in the National League KOC and are eager to continue to build on that momentum against the Cool Running Colts.
Skipper Phillips said: “It’s not ideal having three of our usual guys missing, but that’s the nature of the beast and we’ve just got to adapt to the situation. But I don’t think it’ll change our dynamic.
“We’re approaching this in the same manner as we would any meeting. We’ve got some quality guests coming in who are very experienced and who Steve and Graham believe will do a good job.
“We share their faith, and I’m confident they will settle into the routine with the rest of the boys. We have a game plan and minimum goal of getting at least a point, if not the overall win.”
Premiership action takes over the National Speedway Stadium once again this Monday, May 20 when the Swindon Robins descend on Manchester for their first visit of the season.
Tickets are available at the stadium box office on the night, or secure yours today at www.bellevue-speedway.com.
