Jordan Palin recorded his first ever paid 15-point maximum in the National League as the Belle Vue Colts charged to a 50-40 win over the Plymouth Gladiators, bagging three league points.
But it was a hard-fought win for the home team, especially after a strong start from the Gladiators saw them take an early lead thanks to the efforts of No.1 Ben Wilson and Adam Extance.
It was a short-lived advantage however and the Cool Running Colts were quick to respond and established a small cushion over their rivals, though the score was tight from start to finish.
There was plenty in the way of drama on the night as well, with Danny Phillips crashing out in Heat 3 after swerving to avoid Plymouth No.3 Scott Campos, who spun and fell on his own.
And Ben Rathbone thankfully walked away from a gnarly Heat 14 spill after colliding with Richard Andrews down the back straight, with the referee excluding Rathbone from the re-run.
Maximum man Palin said: “I’m over the moon to have finally got a paid-maximum. It was one of my goals for the season and I’ve accomplished that tonight, and the team got the overall win as well.
“Plymouth pushed us from the first to the last heat. They didn’t give us time to get comfortable, they kept the pressure on us all the time, so we had to bring our A-game to finish the job.
“It’s a great result for us. We’ve got another three points on the board and the confidence of the team is really starting to grow. We’ve got a good foundation to build on so long may it continue.”
