After setting in motion their dramatic comeback, Max Fricke and Kenneth Bjerre were the heroes of Heat 15 after sealing a 47-43 victory for the Belle Vue Aces against Ipswich in Manchester.
The night was not without its dramas, after the Aces skipper was controversially excluded in Heat 10 after clashing with Ipswich No.3 Chris Harris, with both riders thankfully none the worse for wear.
But after a powerful performance on Bank Holiday Monday, the Rentruck Aces refused to be ruled out of the points and set in motion their comeback in a crucial Heat 13 showdown.
Fricke and Bjerre gave their team a fighting chance after scoring the 5-1 that put Belle Vue in front for the first time, before an Ipswich 4-2 in Heat 14 sent the meeting into a last-heat decider.
Bjerre said: “I had to work really hard in my last two heats to get the second spot. Max cleared off and won them so it left it to me to do everything I could to make sure we had a fighting chance.
“Ipswich really pushed us tonight. They’re a strong team and a solid one so this was a big result for us. It would’ve been nice to win by more, but this could easily have been a loss at the same time.
“We’re happy with the result, we can’t not be after such a close meeting. We knew we had to do everything we could to pull things back, so we persevered and got the result we wanted in the end.”
The Cool Running Colts also had a successful trip to Cradley on Monday night, coming away with a 48-42 victory over the heathens to add 3 more league points to their National League tally.
They return home to Manchester next Monday, June 10 when they take on the Mildenhall Fen Tigers at the National Speedway Stadium. Tickets available now at www.bellevue-speedway.com.
