Colts Were Wight Hot!

The Belle Vue ‘Cool Running’ Colts overcame an early meeting scare from the Isle of Wight to walk away with an emphatic 56-34 win in Manchester, and three vital National League points on their tally.

The Warriors held the home team to ransom early doors, locking the scores at 15 apiece after five races with no sign of either side getting a strong enough grip on proceedings to break free.

But the Cool Running Colts had the bit between their teeth and soon turned things around with three consecutive 5-1s that put them 12 points adrift of their rivals at the half-way stage.

And once momentum was on their side, the visitors could do nothing to halt their march towards victory; not even stand-in No.1 Jack Smith could prevent what quickly became an inevitable result.

Club No.3 Leon Flint, who top scored for the Cool Running Colts with 14, said: “It felt really good to get back to riding in the National League. Things have been a bit quiet for us lately.

“I think early doors we were slightly rusty, just purely because we’ve not ridden at home for a while, but once we got dialled in and the boys settled down, the track came to us and that was that.

“It felt good to get the win and the three points. We’re looking strong both at home and away and if we can keep this momentum going, I think we’ve every chance of securing our spot in the top four.”

The Rentruck Aces head to Swindon this Thursday, July 25 before the British Final returns to the National Speedway Stadium on Monday, July 29 when the best of British clash in Manchester.
