Connor Bailey summoned a trademark tornado on his first visit to the Isle of Wight and topped the score charts for Belle Vue after a hard-fought 51-39 loss against the Wightlink Warriors.
The Cool Running Colts were unexpectedly a man down after Danny Phillips broke down en route to Smallbrook Stadium, meaning they were reduced to just one man in three heats on the night.
But Bailey, along with fearless 15-year old Jordan Palin provided two of those heats with a Belle Vue winner, and it wasn’t until Heat 13 that the visitors slipped out of consolation point territory.
Yet despite their disappointment, team boss Graham Goodwin says there were plenty of positives to take from the night, stating: “The lads can be proud of their efforts tonight, they did a great job.
“We unexpectedly lost Danny Phillips after his van broke down. He stayed over in Kent but just after he set off today he ran into some problems, and he tried everything he could to fix it and resume his journey.
“It was just one of those things, it was out of his control. It meant we had that additional challenge to overcome but the boys pulled together and really stepped up their game to try and compensate.
“And up until the last few heats, we were still in with a shout of sneaking a point. We kept the pressure on them and though we just missed out on the point, the boys couldn’t have done more.”
Two significant meetings coming up for the Rentruck Aces, who head to King’s Lynn on Thursday, August 22 before they welcome the Stars back to Manchester on Bank Holiday Monday, August 26.
Tapes up at the earlier time of 12:00pm. Tickets available at the stadium box office on race day, or online at www.bellevue-speedway.com.
